Catch up!

A lot has happened since I wrote last. Here's a snippet of what we've been up to.

We decided to get a real tree this year. The last couple of years we've had an artificial one, which has been fine since the kids, or should I say Anise, was just too young and way too curious for her own good for things like real trees. I'm positive that last year she would have tried to climb it. I'm not totally convinced she won't this year. This year I decided that with the new house with the window that was made to put a Christmas tree in, we should have a real one. And I missed the smell. So, I scoped out trees at all the local grocery stores and we found the one. It is the fullest real tree I've ever had. I'm used to the ones that you have to load with decorations so you can't see all the branches and trunk - kind of Charlie Brown like. Not this one. We actually took decorations off because it was too much! Well, see for yourself.

---That's real, baby---

I also got all my nativity sets put up. I didn't realize that I have as many as I do. 5 on the shelf, no kids allowed to go near ones, and 2 that the kids can have a free for all with. As you can see, Anise is taking advantage of the free for all.

So now the Christmas music is out, the house is decorated with lights, and all things Christmas, and there are even a couple of presents under the tree. We are almost ready!

Last weekend, we had a storm. Actually it was a blizzard. A real good southern Alberta winter blizzard. It was unbelievable. We got quite a bit of snow, but it was the wind that did the most damage. Saturday morning, we woke up to this:

---Our front yard. At least what you can see of it. It's kind of hard to tell in the picture, but that drift is about 3 feet deep, and covers our entire driveway, yard and road in front of the house.---

---We also got about 1.5 feet of snow on our covered deck in the back---

---A view from our bedroom window. This was after a lot of the plastered snow had slid off---

Shortly after seeing all this, reality set in that we no longer live on a main busy road and bus route, where the plows would be coming, and the sanding trucks would be driving. We now live in a quiet cul de sac. If we wanted to go somewhere, we were on our own. It was cold, but not brutally bad (that would come later) and we spent most of the day pushing out neighbors who got stuck in the drifts, and shoveling the driveway over and over again. And by we, I mean Sean:

---it's a good thing I bought us a new snow shovel last month!---

Sunday, we got a call letting us know that the last two hours of Church were being cancelled, and sacrament meeting was going to be held for those who could get out of their houses. We were not one of them. So we stayed home, watched a movie about the birth of the Savior, and tried to stay warm.

Monday, the wind chill was -52, but school was still on! Seriously, I know we're Canadian, but come on! Luckily for me, Sean was able to get the van to start, and took Kaden to school in the morning. By the time Anise was ready for preschool it had warmed up (to -32) so I took her because I knew she would be mad if she missed school, and quite honestly we were all getting cabin fever and I couldn't wait for a break from the kids. The rest of the week has been about the same. The forecast calls for another 10 cm of snow today, so we'll just keep digging ourselves and others out.

So the roads are slippery, the wind is cold and the snow is plentiful, but we've survived our first winter storm without a road plow to keep us dug out.

How's this blizzard been for you?

Ultrasound results

For those of you out there who have been anxiously biting your nails, awaiting the news of my ultrasound; and for those who haven't - here it is.

I went for an ultrasound today to double check my due date because I am measuring about 4 weeks bigger than I should at this point, so my dates must be wrong - that or it is twins. So I downed the water and went to my appointment. And here's the results:

My due date is: May 16th, 2010 (unchanged)

and

I'm having ONE baby!

Surprise!! It turns out I do know how to keep track of dates. Hmmm, go figure. I now have to go back in about 4 weeks for the standard 20 week ultrasound because at 16 weeks the baby is still too small to measure and see everything that they need to. It's a bit of a pain, but I'm excited non the less because it means I'll get another peek at the little babe.

Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day. It's a special day that we remember those who have fought and are currently fighting for our freedom. I'm so grateful for these special soldiers and what they have and are doing for us. It seems that one day a year just isn't enough to convey how truly thankful we should be for their sacrifices. I am able to go shopping, take my kids to school, go to church, visit my friends and family and go for a walk whenever I want, and without fear of what I will find when I reach my destination or when I return home. I don't have to worry that someone is going to come for my husband or other family members, never to see them again. How we take this for granted! I wanted to share this video, listen to the words; it made me cry (it's not just the pregnancy talking either) So for any veterans, soldiers, military personnel and their families out there: THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU!

I had a funny conversation yesterday with the kids at lunch. It went something like this.

Anise: I really wish we could get a kitty. I love kitties. They're so cute.
Kaden: We aren't getting a kitty. We're getting a puppy.
Me (a little surprised that Kaden was so sure we are getting a dog. We aren't): We're not getting a puppy or kitty. We're having a baby.
Anise: Let's call the baby Puppy.
Me: You want to call the baby, Puppy?
Anise: Ya! Would that be a good idea?

Hmmmm....I guess this is why the naming of the children is left up to the parents!

Giveaway to check out

I stumbled across this cool site that has some amazing giveaways.

http://www.myorganizedchaos.net/2009/10/bumbleride-indie-twin-giveaway-kick-off.html

They are giving away a Bumbleride Indie Twin, and I was thinking how great it would be to win this if I really am having twins. But then I thought that even if I'm not, it would still be great because Anise is still young enough to ride.

Check it out!

It's time to let the cat out of the bag...

because I don't know how I've managed to keep it a secret from so many people for so long. Some people I just had to tell. Or I would burst. And I needed someone besides my poor husband to whine to. Thank-you for letting me whine to you, because I know I did it a lot!

Baby #3 is on his/her way. I'm due May 16, 2010. We think - I'll explain in a bit. It's been rough (hence all the whining) so far. I've been incredibly nauseous- even while on diclectin, I feel like I'm about to hurl at any given moment. Afternoons and evenings are the worst for some reason. Seems backwards that my "morning sickness" is a night, but whatever.

So, to explain the uncertainty of my due date. I went to the Doctor yesterday for my 12 week check. Third time around, and it's pretty routine. Pee in the cup, try not to cry when you see how much you really weigh, tell them about all the weird cravings you've been having, lay down so he can prod your belly, and get teary when he finds the baby's heartbeat. Except that didn't happen. He found the heartbeat - good and strong, and he prodded my belly, but then asked me how far along I was again. I told him 12 weeks. He said, "HMMM, you're measuring a bit big for that. Like maybe more like 16 weeks. Or there's more than one baby in there" WHAT!? Go back a second, what do you mean 16 weeks? And what's this about more than one? I'm pretty sure my dates are right - I notice when that time of month comes (how could I not?), so pretty sure I didn't mess that one up. But the alternative- TWINS?! Oh boy.

So, either I'm further along than I thought. Hurray! Which would explain why my clothes don't fit already, and I felt so HUGE at only 9 weeks - I was really 13. OR, we're having twins which would also explain why my clothes don't fit and I already feel huge. Unfortunately the soonest I can get in for an ultrasound is December 1st, so I get to stew about it for a month!

So that's our exciting news - our family is growing, we just don't know by how much yet :-)g

This is Halloween, this is Halloween, Halloween Halloween

Around here, Halloween is kind of a big deal. We go all out. Our house gets decorated (inside and out), costumes are almost always home made, and pumpkins are turned into Jack-O-Lanterns. We have fun with it. Last night was Jack-O-Lantern making night for FHE. The kids enjoyed themselves...oh who am I kidding, Sean and I had a lot of fun too!! Here's some high-lights. Enjoy!

---Anise getting into it---

---Sean scooping out his pumpkin---

---Kaden had a two handed approach. I think he looked a bit like a surgeon with both his hands inside, two spoons going and muttering under his breath when he missed something---

---The kids with their Jack-O-Lanterns---

---All lit up---

---And I saved the best for last---
